Split work into subtasks and set what waits

Break a task into subtasks for different people, run them in order, and make tasks wait for others to finish.

Updated

A task has one assignee. When work needs several people, give it subtasks, one per person.

Add subtasks

  1. Open the task.
  2. Under Subtasks, type in Add a subtask and press Enter.
  3. Give each subtask its own assignee.

Subtasks go one level deep: a subtask can't have subtasks of its own.

How a task and its subtasks move together

  • A task and its subtasks move between Backlog and To do together.
  • Each subtask is finished on its own. Finishing the last one finishes the task.
  • Marking the task done finishes every subtask.
  • A task is In progress while any of its subtasks is.

Run subtasks in order

Switch on In order above the subtasks. Each subtask then waits for the one above it.

Make a task wait for another

  1. Open the task.
  2. Under Depends on, find the task it waits for. You can pick a subtask beside this one or any other task in the project.

A task can't wait on itself in a circle; Coding Cords refuses that.

What waiting means

A waiting task stays out of its assignee's to-do list until everything it waits for is done. Then it appears there on its own.
