Chat and calls

Talk it through, and the follow-up is already written

Chat, calls, phone numbers and meetings live in the same workspace as your tasks, files and clients. A call starts from the conversation it belongs to, and a meeting ends with a summary, decisions and action items you can turn into tasks.

What it does

What a day of talking looks like in Coding Cords

Ten things people do every week, each as it works today.

Conversations

A chat list that keeps up with you

Public and private channels, direct messages and groups of up to 10 people. Meetings, Mentions and Saved sit at the top of the list. Unread conversations come first, in bold.

  • Message the same people again and you land in the same conversation. A closed direct message reopens for everyone when a new message arrives.
  • Type a channel name and the live preview shows how it will read: Design Team becomes #design-team. A channel can carry an emoji in place of the #.
  • Press ⌘K to jump anywhere, and ⌘K again to search everything. Alt with the up and down arrows steps through unread conversations only, and Shift and Esc marks everything read.
  • Browse every public channel with its member count and topic. You can read one before you join it.
  • On a phone it is one column at a time, with a swipe from the edge to go back, touch rows of 44 pixels and a composer that stays above the keyboard.

Messages

Write, talk or drop a file, and it arrives readable

The composer takes formatting, files and voice. A half-written message waits for you in each conversation and thread.

  • Drop files anywhere on the conversation, paste them, or pick them from the company's Files. Each shows as a chip at once and uploads in the background, up to 20 files of 200 MB a message.
  • Voice messages run up to 10 minutes and play with a waveform. Coding Cords' own speech model writes them down, and the transcript is searchable.
  • Send later works as it does in Mail. A line above the composer counts what is scheduled, and a send that fails says why. Scheduled messages are text only.
  • Delete leaves "This message was deleted." with Undo. Delete that line and the message is gone for good.
  • A "New" line marks the first unread message, and a floating button jumps up to it.

Threads and tasks

Pin it, find it, or turn it into a task

Replies open in a side panel, and you follow a thread when you write in it, are mentioned in it or started it.

  • Under a message you see the faces of up to four repliers, the reply count and when the last one came in.
  • Pin a message for everyone. It is tinted amber and listed in the channel's Pinned tab.
  • Search every conversation you can read, or only the one you are in. Private channels and direct messages you are not part of are never searched.
  • Make a task from a message. The title comes from its first line, and the task holds the text and a link back to the exact message.
  • Saved is your own list of messages, and Mentions lists everything that names you or uses @channel.

Calls

Call from the conversation, and keep working

The phone and camera icons sit in every conversation header. In a direct message the others are rung. In a channel nobody is rung: the banner reads "3 in a call" with faces and a Join button.

  • Ringing reaches every open tab and every device by push for 40 seconds, then becomes "Missed call from Sara". The push has Answer and Decline buttons.
  • Press Esc and the call shrinks to a floating window showing whoever is speaking. Drag it to a corner, where it snaps and is remembered, and carry on in tasks or mail.
  • A pill in the sidebar shows "In a call" with the time and brings the call back. On a phone the window becomes a round bubble.
  • Share your screen with system audio, pick the microphone, camera and speaker, and watch a green ring follow the active speaker.
  • When the call ends the conversation keeps a line: "12 min · 3 people".

Phone numbers

A real phone number for the company, bought in Settings

An admin searches by area code or digits, picks a number and names it, for example Sales line. Numbers are offered in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland and Pakistan.

  • The buy sheet shows the price before you confirm, and you choose who may use the line. A number shows Activating until it is live, and you get an email when it is ready.
  • Plans include one, two or five numbers. A This month meter shows calling use, and outgoing calls stop cleanly when the month's allowance runs out.
  • Incoming calls ring everyone who has the line, in the app and by push. The first to answer takes it and the others stop ringing.
  • Release a number from the list and it goes back to the carrier, with a confirmation first.
  • Numbers that need regulatory documents are listed but can't be bought yet.

Calls and texts

Call a client in one click, and it lands on their record

Call is on every person, organisation and deal in the CRM, and on each row of the CRM's Today list. Calls and texts are written to the contact's timeline.

  • The button uses the line you used last. Its arrow menu offers Call from each line and Send a text. With no line, the button explains that an admin can add one.
  • The dialler in the Contacts bar takes any number in any format and shows the contact's name as you type.
  • Phone calls open in the same window as app calls, with a keypad for touch tones.
  • The timeline records what happened: Call out, 4 min, Missed call, or Called, no answer, read from the call's own result.
  • Texts arrive in Chat as one conversation per outside number. Everyone on the line sees it and can answer, and you can call the number back from there.

Booking

Book a meeting, and the first free times are already there

One New meeting sheet with Now, Later and Repeats. Later books a real calendar event, and guests get invitations with Accept, Maybe and Decline that work in any calendar app.

  • Suggested times shows the first three slots in the coming week when you and every colleague invited are free, within 9 to 6 on each person's own clock. It reads meetings, routines, task time and approved time off, and only free or busy leaves the server.
  • It says "Outside guests' calendars aren't checked." Guests are added as email chips, and duplicates are dropped.
  • Book from a channel header, the calendar, the New menu or a Sales inbox conversation. The lead is filled in as the guest.
  • Repeats sets weekdays, every week or every 2 weeks, a time and a length. Each meeting picks up the agenda points the last one left open or marked Keep for next time, once, labelled From last time.
  • Changing or cancelling the meeting sends updates to the guests.

Guests

Clients join with a link and no account

A meeting link looks like /meet/kfw-prdq-zmeb: easy to read out and hard to guess. The guest types a name and asks to join.

  • The page shows the title, host, company and time, then "Someone will let you in soon." Anyone from the company in the meeting can admit or deny from the people panel, and the host gets a push.
  • Turn the lobby off to let guests straight in, or make a link that works once for a single guest. People signed in to the workspace skip the lobby.
  • Guests can talk and show their camera. They cannot share their screen.
  • Guests read the company's notice before joining and can choose "Join without my voice transcribed".
  • A meeting booked from a channel keeps its chat as a thread there. Guests write into it under their own names and see nothing else of the channel.

In the meeting

Cord catches what is agreed, and you answer by talking

The meeting is transcribed live with names and times. While people talk, Cord notices tasks, decisions, deadlines, blockers, client requests and open questions, and a quiet card floats in the lower corner.

  • Someone says "we need a new website". The card asks "Who's taking it, and by when?". Someone answers "Sam, by Friday" and it fills in: New website, Sam, by Fri 16 Oct. Names and dates are read by plain code.
  • It stays quiet on purpose. Nothing while nobody speaks, at most one card every 2 minutes unless Cord is very sure, never the same thing twice, and no card for small talk.
  • Add to action items, Keep decision, Note blocker, Ignore and Undo are one click. A task card files into the meeting's project or the client it is about.
  • Choose the listening speed per meeting: Off, Relaxed, Normal, Fast or Live. A What Cord did panel shows every card and what happened to it.
  • A Transcribing light shows to everyone in the room, guests included. Any member can turn off Transcribe my voice in Profile, and a voice that hasn't agreed is never sent to the listener.

After the meeting

A summary you can check, and action items that become tasks

The meeting page holds the agenda, the summary written in the shape of the meeting type, decisions, action items, open questions, what the meeting never got to, and the transcript.

  • There are nine meeting types, such as Daily stand-up, Client call, Sales call and Retro. A stand-up gets Today's plan and Blockers, and a sales call gets Needs and Objections.
  • Click any summary point and the transcript opens at the line where it was said. If it can't find it, it says so.
  • Make task files an action item in the meeting's project with its owner and date. If the item names exactly one person in full, the task goes to them. A first name alone assigns nobody, and no task is made without a click.
  • A notes page is filed once in Files, in the project or the company's files, and from then on it is the team's to edit. Coding Cords never overwrites it.
  • Copy the summary, or use Email guests to open a mail to the outside guests with the text. If the summary fails it retries and then says it couldn't be written.

Notifications

Reachable, and not buzzed all day

A bell inbox with All and Unread, Today and Earlier. Each notification is one plain sentence and opens the exact place it is about.

  • Reply, approve time off or expenses, answer a meeting invitation or add 30 minutes to a task, all from the notification itself. Mark one Done with Undo, or snooze it.
  • Choose where each kind of news reaches you: In app, Push, Email or Digest, for mentions, comments, tasks, meetings, time off and expenses, mail and more. Calls always ring.
  • Quiet hours can cross midnight and follow your own clock. Only calls come through, and everything else waits under the bell.
  • The morning digest is one push and one email at the time you choose, listing tasks due, approvals, mentions and today's meetings. Nothing is sent when nothing needs you.
  • In digest mode ringing calls, guests in your lobby, a task block ending in 15 minutes and mentions still arrive live. If one of your tabs is in front of you, pushes to your other devices arrive silently.

Cord here

Ask Cord about the talking

Cord reads conversations and meetings as you do. It posts to chat, searches it, lists your mentions, pins a message and makes a task from one. It schedules meetings and reads their transcripts. An open conversation is plugged into Cord as context.

  • What did I miss in #design?
  • Pin Ana's last message
  • Make a task from Sam's message about the invoice
  • Book a client call with anna@acme.com on Tuesday
  • What did we decide in Monday's planning meeting?

Posting, reading, searching and pinning in chat, and scheduling, listing and reading meetings and transcripts, are open to any AI tool that supports MCP, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Antigravity, with your own permissions. A meeting's agenda and outcomes are changed in the app.

Notes and tasks from phone calls, the way a meeting already comes back.★

Simple to run

Simple to run

Chat, calls, phone numbers and meetings are part of the same workspace. There is no call tool to license and no phone system to wire up.

Meeting settings sit in one card

Settings, AI, Meetings & voice holds the switches: transcribe meetings, transcribe voice messages, suggestions during meetings, the default listening speed, who reads transcripts (everyone in the meeting or only the host) and the notice guests read.

Phone numbers are an admin job

Admins buy, name, assign and release numbers in Settings, Phone. Each number is connected to calling for you, and only the carrier's own addresses may call in.

Chat can be switched off per person

Chat is a module, so an admin can turn it off for someone who doesn't need it.

Plan limits end a long meeting cleanly

Each plan limits how many people can be in a meeting and how long it can run. A meeting past the limit ends, and its channel is told why.

Cord is included

Every person has AI on every plan, so a summary or a question about last week's meeting does not need a separate subscription.

Fair to say

What it doesn't do yet

Where a part isn't built, it is here, and the ones we're working on carry a star.

On the roadmap

  • Meeting recording★Keep the audio and video of a meeting beside its transcript and notes. The Keep recordings switch in settings stores nothing yet.
  • Transcripts beyond English★Live transcripts and notes for meetings held in other languages. Today the speech model is English only.
  • Call recording★Record phone calls, with the other side told.
  • Voicemail★Messages left on your numbers, with a transcript.
  • Notes and tasks from phone calls★A phone call comes back as notes and tasks, as a meeting already does.
  • Apps for iPhone and Android★The workspace from the App Store and Google Play. Today it runs in the phone's browser, and on iPhone it must be added to the Home Screen for push.

Not in the product today

  • Screen sharing from a phoneSharing a screen works in the browser on a computer. On iPhone the installed app must stay in front during a call.
  • Call controls for large meetingsThere is no background blur, noise suppression, breakout rooms, polls, hand raise or webinar mode.
  • Call history, hold and transferPhone calls show on the contact's timeline, but there is no call history screen. There is no hold, transfer or IVR, and no emergency calling.
  • Ringing someone into a call in progressPeople join a running call from the banner or the link. There is no button to ring more of them in.
  • Picture messages by textTexts are words only, with no pictures. US numbers must be registered with the carrier before they can text.
  • A followed-threads listYou follow threads and are told about replies, but there is no screen listing them. Replies can't also be sent to the channel, and search has no author filter.
  • Link previews, GIFs and shared channelsThere are no link previews or GIFs, no edit history, and no channels shared with another company.
  • A booking page for clientsClients can't pick a slot themselves. Suggested times check your own team's calendars, not outside guests'.
  • Editing meeting types and agenda orderThe nine meeting types can be chosen per meeting but not edited, and agenda items can't be dragged into order. Routines repeat weekly or every 2 weeks.
  • A summary sent to guests for youEmail guests opens your own mail app with the text. The digest covers tasks, approvals, mentions and meetings, not unread chat or mail.

Questions

Questions people ask

Do guests need an account to join a meeting?

No. They open the link, type a name and ask to join, then wait in the lobby until someone from the company lets them in. You can turn the lobby off, or make a link that works for one guest only. Guests can talk and show their camera but can't share their screen.

Is my voice transcribed without asking?

Guests read the company's notice before joining and can choose to join without their voice transcribed. Any member can switch off Transcribe my voice in Profile. The listener never receives audio from someone who hasn't agreed, and it checks again every 20 seconds, so opting out mid-call works. Phone callers are never transcribed. The speech model runs on Coding Cords' own servers.

Which languages are transcribed?

English only. The summary is told to write in the meeting's language, but the speech model does not transcribe other languages yet. Transcripts beyond English are on the roadmap.

Can I record a meeting or a phone call?

Not yet. Meetings are transcribed, not recorded, and phone calls are neither. Meeting recording and call recording are on the roadmap.

Can I get a phone number in my country?

Numbers are offered in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland and Pakistan. Some need regulatory documents and can't be bought in the app yet. Texts are words only, and US numbers must be registered with the carrier before they can text.

Will Cord make tasks I didn't ask for?

No. Cord's cards offer, and you click. Action items become tasks only when someone presses Make task or accepts the suggestion, and an item that names only a first name is given to nobody.

Does it work on a phone?

It runs in the phone's browser with a layout made for touch, and you can join calls and meetings from it. Web push works on Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, including iPhone once the app is on the Home Screen. Apps for iPhone and Android are on the roadmap.

Hold your next meeting in Coding Cords

Book it from a channel, send the link to a client, and read the summary when it ends. The action items are ready to become tasks.
