Cord and MCP

Ask once, and the work is done in the right place

Cord is plugged into the page you are on and can act in every module you use: tasks, files, deals, invoices, time, mail, chat and meetings. Small changes you asked for happen at once, with Undo. Anything that sends, pays or deletes waits for you.

What it does

What Cord does in Coding Cords

Eleven things people do with it, each as it works today.

On the page

Cord already knows what you are looking at

Press Ctrl or Cmd and J anywhere, or use Ask Cord in the top bar. Cord opens beside the page and knows the page and whatever you have selected, so a vague ask like "connect these" or "make these shorter" acts on the selection.

  • Chips show what Cord is plugged into: the page in front and the rows or text selected. They follow the selection, and taking a chip off unplugs Cord from it.
  • Starter questions fit the place. On invoices: "Remind the selected clients". In the CRM: "Which deals haven't moved in two weeks?". On a task: "Break this task into subtasks".
  • Documents, canvases, Files, the backlog, deals, contacts, invoices, expenses, mail, chat and meeting records all plug in. Cord reads the editor's live copy, so its block numbers match what you see.
  • One conversation follows you around the app and survives a reload. The Cord page lists every conversation, pinned ones first, grouped by where each one started.
  • The search box ends with an Ask Cord row, and on a phone Cord opens full screen from the More sheet.

Does the work

It makes the task, drafts the invoice, moves the deal

Cord has 165 tools, and each one is a real action in the workspace. The answer comes back as a card for the record it touched, with a link to open it.

  • Tasks: create up to 30 at once from an action list, make one repeat, start work on a task now, add a dependency, or start a project from a won deal.
  • Money: ask what clients owe, what is overdue and what came in this month. Draft an invoice, or bill a client's unbilled time so the hours can't be billed twice.
  • CRM: deal health with the reasons, a forecast weighted by stage, win rates with won and lost reasons, and a next step set as a task for the owner.
  • Results arrive as 28 kinds of card, among them tasks, invoices, deals, a calendar day, a time report and a chart. A name Cord mentions is a live link, and a link to something Cord never saw is removed before the reply is saved.
  • Each module's tools are offered only to people who have that module on.

Waits for you

Anything risky waits for your hand on the button

A fixed set of rules decides what waits, before any model gets a say. Sending, paying, deleting, sharing, signing, anything that touches money or access, every admin action, and any change to more than ten things at once always waits for a click.

  • A change card shows what will be made and one button named for the result, such as "Send the invoice to anna@acme.de", beside Not now. You can edit the card's fields before you confirm.
  • Anything that leaves the company, moves money or can't be undone needs a press and hold. Current runs round the button's edge, and letting go early drains it back.
  • A small change inside the company happens at once when your own words plainly asked for exactly that. If Cord can't tell, it waits.
  • Each reversible change has an Undo that runs as you, through the same checks. Once answered, the card stays as a record: Done, Not done or Undone.
  • Pausing a campaign, recording a payment and deciding time off also wait for your click. In voice mode you can approve a held change by saying yes.

Documents and canvases

Edits arrive as tracked changes, drawings in your canvas style

Select a paragraph in a document and ask Cord to shorten it. The edit comes back as tracked changes, word by word, and you accept or reject each one.

  • Cord comments on a passage, replies to a thread and resolves it, the way a colleague reviewing the page would.
  • On a canvas it can relabel, restyle, connect and disconnect shapes, and turn the selected boxes into a database diagram.
  • Ask it to draw a flowchart, a mind map, a database diagram or a wireframe, and it draws in the canvas's own style.
  • Blocks that hold a masked value, such as a card number or a key, are locked against AI edits.
  • Attach a Word file, a PDF, a spreadsheet or a picture and ask about it. Scanned PDFs are read as page pictures, and phone photos in HEIC work.

Sees what you see

Cord acts as you, with your permissions

Every action goes through one executor that checks module access, admin-only rules and parameters before the workspace's own functions run. Something in another company, or in someone else's personal project, is answered as if it didn't exist.

  • Nothing from the Vault, payroll, sign-in, signing codes, portal credentials or API keys is sent to a model. A field named after a secret blocks the whole payload.
  • Card numbers, IBANs and key-like strings are masked wherever they appear. Cord reads only your own payslips.
  • Model calls ask for providers that don't train on your data or keep it. If none qualifies, the call fails and does not fall back to one that does.
  • Emails, files, form answers and client messages are treated as data. If one tells Cord to do something, Cord tells you instead of doing it.
  • The audit log names Cord, acting for a person, and keeps each field's before and after.

Voice

Talk to Cord and interrupt whenever you like

Voice mode turns what you say into an ordinary message in the same conversation, so typing, dictating and talking mix freely. Cord answers aloud, and talking over it stops it at once.

  • Speech recognition and Cord's voice both run on our own servers.
  • While tools run, Cord narrates in short lines such as "Checking invoices and tasks", stays silent on quick steps and says "Still on it" once after six seconds.
  • Dictation takes up to five minutes, takes out fillers and false starts and corrects misheard names using your company's own people, projects and clients.
  • If tidying would change too much of what you said, you get your words verbatim. Nothing from a dictation is kept.
  • Answers keep running on the server when a tab closes or a phone sleeps. Come back and the answer is there, with Retry if it was cut off.

Meetings

Meetings leave tasks behind, caught while people talk

On a call, a quiet card offers to keep a task, a decision or a deadline as people agree to it. The card asks its question, and the answer can be spoken: "Sam, by Friday" fills it in.

  • Everyone sees Transcribing. A person who turned off Transcribe my voice, or a guest who hasn't agreed, is never subscribed to, so their audio never reaches the listener.
  • Dates and people come from plain rules ("by Friday", a member's name), and a model only words the item. Nothing appears while nobody is speaking.
  • A client mentioned for a new project is always a CRM record, and the card can add the organisation to the CRM first.
  • Afterwards: a summary in the meeting type's sections, decisions, open questions, action items offered to the host as tasks, items for the next agenda and a notes page in Files. A task is made only after a click.
  • Settings decide who reads transcripts, everyone in the meeting or only the host, and what guests are told.

Quiet help

It tidies in the background and shows its reasoning

Some help arrives without being asked, as one small card at the bottom right with a button named for the result, Details and Ignore. After you act, the card says what was done and offers Undo.

  • Uploads into a folder are judged together: a clearer file name, but only when Cord read the file's text, and a better folder, but only one that exists.
  • Team inboxes get a label by topic, such as invoice, support or job application. It is the only change AI makes without a click, and taking the label off undoes it. A possible customer gets an Add as lead suggestion.
  • Needs reply picks the messages really waiting on an answer and leaves out notices and receipts. Add a receipt to an expense and Cord fills whatever is still empty, never over what you typed.
  • Interested replies to outreach get a drafted answer in the thread's language. Reply with draft opens the composer filled in, and nothing is sent.
  • Cord offers to remember something and saves it only if you accept. Company memory is managed by admins, personal memory is yours, and How Cord writes holds your house style, such as "we call clients partners".

AI spending

AI in every seat, and a bill you can read

Each person has their own AI allowance every month. It is not pooled, and it resets on the 1st. You see where it went by day, feature, person and model.

  • The included allowance starts at $5 a person on Starter. More is available as a tier per person at $8, $16, $24, $100 or $200 a month, dollar for dollar of AI.
  • A member sees only their own price and never the company's bill.
  • Settings, AI has a switch and a monthly limit for each of the 20 places AI works, grouped as Suggests on its own and When asked. Switch Cord off and nothing is sent to a model.
  • What you ask for is yours. Company-wide work, such as sorting mail, meeting notes and indexing, is paid from the owner's allowance and shown to them as Company features.
  • Prompt caching and tool trimming lower the cost of each step. Jev, the decision model, and search are free to the company.

MCP server

Run the workspace from your own AI tool

Coding Cords runs an MCP server with 153 tools. Make a personal key in Profile, AI, paste one line into your AI tool, and it can read and change the workspace as you.

  • Setup text is ready for Claude Code (one terminal command), Codex and Antigravity, with a new key already filled in. Any AI tool that supports MCP, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Antigravity, can use the server.
  • The tools cover tasks, files, CRM, deals, invoices, expenses, time, time off, mail, chat, meetings, forms, signing, notes and search.
  • Each call runs the same checks as the app: that module on for the person, admin-only actions for admins, validated parameters. Refusals come back in plain words.
  • Keys are shown once and stored only as a hash. A key stops working at once when it is revoked or its owner leaves the company.
  • Changes are written to the audit log under the person and the key's name, and show up live in everyone's open tabs. Tools carry read-only and destructive hints so a client can warn first.

Cord here

Ask Cord

Say what you want in your own words. Cord reads, drafts and files, small things happen at once with Undo, and a change that sends, pays or deletes waits for your hold on the button. Your own AI tool gets the same actions through MCP.

  • Which invoices are overdue?
  • Make a task for each of these action points
  • Which deals haven't moved in two weeks?
  • Draft an invoice for Acme's unbilled time
  • Rename scan001.pdf to Hetzner invoice October
  • Where did the hotel receipt from Lisbon go?

The same actions are open to any AI tool that supports MCP, such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Antigravity, with your own permissions.

Handing a task to a Cord the way you would to a colleague, and several Cords working on one job.★

Simple to run

Simple to run

Cord is part of the workspace. There is no separate AI account, no key for the assistant and no second place to manage who can see what.

Switch it off for everyone

Admins can turn Cord off in Settings, AI. Nothing is then sent to a model and every suggestion stops. The Ask Cord button is hidden.

Each AI feature has its own switch

There are 20, each with an optional monthly limit, and 30-day numbers show how often a suggestion was shown and taken.

Teach it your house style

Admins write company memory and How Cord writes once, and everyone's Cord reads them. People keep their own memories in Profile, AI.

Keys belong to people

Each person makes their own MCP keys in Profile, AI and sees when each was last used. An admin sees who did what in the audit log.

Spend is visible

Admins see everyone's AI by day, feature, person and model, and can set anyone's tier.

Fair to say

What it doesn't do yet

Where a part isn't built, it is here, and the ones we're working on carry a star.

On the roadmap

  • Hand a task to a Cord★Assign a task to Cord the way you would to a colleague, and it reports back on the task.
  • Several Cords on one job★More than one Cord working at once, each on its own part.
  • Cord edits spreadsheets★Ask Cord to build or fix a spreadsheet in Files: formulas, tables and tidy-ups. Today it can read one you attach.
  • Transcripts beyond English★Live transcripts and notes for meetings held in other languages. Today voice is English only.
  • Drafting mail replies★Cord puts a reply in the composer for you to read and send, in Mail.

Not in the product today

  • The web and videoCord works only inside your workspace. It does not browse the web, look things up outside it or watch video.
  • Jobs that run on a scheduleThere is no "every Monday, summarise the pipeline". Cord answers when you ask.
  • Long jobs in one goAn answer is capped at 8 steps and 90 seconds. For more, Cord says it stopped and you ask it to carry on.
  • Your own modelThe model is set for the whole service. A company can't choose another or bring its own key.
  • Sign-in with OAuth for MCPMCP uses personal keys. MCP can't change documents or canvases the way the in-app editor does, can't edit meeting records and can't read message attachments or receipts. The Vault, passwords and payroll are never reachable.
  • A daily spending capLimits are monthly, for each person and for each AI feature.

Questions

Questions people ask

Can Cord do something I did not ask for?

No change that sends, pays, deletes, shares, signs or touches access happens without your click, and anything that leaves the company needs a press and hold. Small internal changes happen at once only when your own words plainly asked for them, and they come with Undo. The one exception is the label on a team inbox, which can be taken off again.

Can Cord see our passwords and payroll?

No. Vault items, payroll, sign-in data, signing codes, portal credentials and API keys are never sent to a model, and card numbers, IBANs and key-like strings are masked wherever they appear. Cord shows a person only their own payslips.

Is our data used to train a model?

Each model call asks for providers that don't train on your data or keep it. If none qualifies, the call fails and does not go to another provider.

How do I connect Claude Code, Codex or Antigravity?

Make a key in Profile, AI. The page shows the setup for each, a terminal command for Claude Code, a config.toml entry for Codex and JSON for Antigravity, with your new key already in it. The key acts as you, in your company. Revoke it and it stops working at once.

What can an outside AI tool do through MCP?

It gets 153 tools, the same actions Cord uses apart from the editor's own changes, meeting record edits and message attachments. Every call runs the app's checks and is written to the audit log with your name and the key's. An outside tool has no confirm card of ours, so the server tells the tool to ask you before deleting, sending outside the company or inviting anyone.

Who pays for AI?

AI is included for each person every month, and anyone can add a tier at $8 to $200 a month. What you ask Cord is charged to you. Company-wide work such as mail sorting and meeting notes comes from the owner's allowance. Jev decisions and search cost nothing, so they keep working past every limit.

Does it work in other languages?

Typed requests go to the model as you write them. Dictation, voice mode, meeting transcripts and voice message transcripts are English only today, and transcripts in other languages are on the roadmap.

Ask Cord about your own week

Open any page, press Cmd or Ctrl and J, and ask what is overdue. Cord is already plugged into where you are.
