Record a payment or credit an invoice

Mark money received against an invoice, issue a credit note, or void an invoice sent in error.

Updated

Once an invoice is issued, its page shows what is still due. Record each payment as it arrives and the amount due goes down until the invoice is paid.

Record a payment

  1. Open the invoice from Finance › Invoices.
  2. Choose Record payment.
  3. Enter the Amount and the date it was Paid on.
  4. Choose How it came: Bank transfer, Card, Cash or Other.
  5. Add a Reference from the bank statement, if there is one, and save.

A part payment leaves the rest due. Record payment shows only while something is still owed.

Issue a credit note

Use a credit note when a client is owed something back on an issued invoice, such as an agreed discount.

  1. Open the invoice and choose More › Credit note.
  2. Under What to credit, choose The whole invoice, or An amount to enter a sum and its Tax.
  3. Say What it is for and save.

Credit notes are listed in Finance › Invoices under Credit notes, and can be sent to the client like an invoice.

Void an invoice

An invoice issued by mistake can be voided from More › Void. It keeps its number but no longer counts as owed. A draft that was never issued is deleted instead, with Delete draft.
